Police arraign engineer for receiving stolen camera

A 35-year-old engineer, Mustapha Abdul, appeared before the Abuja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday for allegedly receiving a stolen D850 camera valued at N5 million.
The police charged Mr Abdul of Suleja, Niger State, with receiving stolen property, but the defendant pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Oguejiofor Jideofor of Kubwa in Abuja, reported a case of theft against one Nicholas Peter at the Gwarinpa Police Station on November 15.
Ms Nwachukwu said Mr Peter allegedly made away with the complainant’s camera, D850, worth N5 million and sold it to the defendant for N800,000
She told the court that Mr Peter’s confessional statements at the police station led to the defendant’s arrest.
The prosecutor alleged that during the police investigation, the stolen camera was recovered from the defendant.
She said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 317 of the Penal Code.
The chief magistrate, Musa Jobbo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 and one surety in like sum.
Mr Jobbo said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and his address must be verified by the court registry
He adjourned the matter until March 9 for a hearing.
