Police arraign Lagos businessman for assaulting wife

A 33-year-old businessman, Olakunle Abegunde, was on Friday brought before the Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting his wife.
The defendant, who resides at House 4, Megamound Estate, Ikate, Lekki, Lagos, is standing trial on a charge of assault.
Mr Abegunde pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on October 29, 2025, at his residence.
According to him, the defendant habitually assaults his wife, Afolashade Olatunde, physically and verbally during minor disagreements.
He alleged that the defendant caused a breach of the peace by beating his wife on the chest, resulting in severe chest pain.
He said the offence contravened Section 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The chief magistrate, L. A. Owolabi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until March 4 for mention.
