Police arraign man, 43, over alleged N5.5 million truck scam

The police on Thursday arraigned a 43-year-old man, Olawale Saheed, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State. for allegedly obtaining N5.5 million under false pretences.
Saheed, whose address was not provided, was charged with conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretences and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, ASP Foluke Adedosu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in August, at Ojoo area of Ibadan.
Ms Adedosu, said the defendant and others at large fraudulently obtained the sum of N5.5 million from one Alatise Sheriff, under guise of selling one accidented truck to him.
She said the defendant failed to sell the truck to the complainant after collecting the money.
According to her, the defendant converted the said money to his personal use, therefore going contrary to Sections 399(9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, M. Olagbenro granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two reliable sureties in like sum.
She, thereafter, adjourned the case until January 30, 2025 for hearing.
