Police arraign man, 55, over alleged N37 million land fraud

The police on Tuesday, arraigned one Waheed Adekojo, 55, before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly defrauding an estate agent of N37million.
The defendant of Ijaye Orile, Ibadan, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecuting Counsel, ASP. Tunji Olaniyi, told the court that the defendant allegedly conspired with others at large to commit the offence.
Olaniyi alleged that the defendant in 2024, with intent to defraud, obtained N37 million from Syncurve Homes Limited under the pretence of selling 130 acres of land to the company.
He said that the defendant collected the money from the complainant and converted it to his own use.
He said the offence was committed at Ipoki area, Ijaye Orile, Ibadan.
According to Olaniyi, the offence is contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390 (9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The Magistrate, M. Mudashiru, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N5million, with two sureties in like sum.
Mudashiru said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant, while the second must be a landed property owner with Certificate of Occupancy and original survey plan.
He, thereafter, adjourned the matter until November 6, for hearing.
