The police on Monday arraigned a 30-year-old man, Sanni Mubarak, before the Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly battering and threatening the life of his wife.

The defendant, whose address was not stated, is charged on a four-count charge bordering on battery, threat to life, stealing, and willful damage.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Aminu Isaac, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 12 at Mini Shawarma Junction in the radio area of Ikorodu.

He alleged that the defendant threatened to harm his wife, Mistura Baruwa, a nominal complainant.

The defendant was also alleged to have dishonestly taken away some items belonging to the complainant, including a 6kg and 3kg cooking gas cylinders, a 20000W power bank, and a carton of frozen chicken, turkey, and fried cow meat, all valued at N180,000.

The defendant was also alleged to have damaged an iPhone XR belonging to the complainant, valued at N350,000.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 56, 172, 287, and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The chief magistrate, B.A. Sonuga, granted the defendant a N1 million bail, with two sureties in like sum.

Mr Sonuga adjourned the case until December 4 for mention.
