Police arraign man for stealing iPhone, shoe in Benue
The police in Benue on Monday arraigned one Emmanuel Terese at the Makurdi Upper Area Court 2 for alleged criminal conspiracy, trespass, housebreaking and theft.
The prosecutor, Veronica Shaagee, told the court that the case was reported at the ‘E’ Division Police Station, Makurdi, by Lois Audu of Mercy Yilase Street, Gyado Villa, Makurdi, on November 10.
Ms Shaagee alleged that the defendant (Terese) of Rice Mill, Makurdi, conspired with one Sunday Agbo, now at large and broke into the complaint’s house and stole her iPhone valued at N200,000 and her footwear valued at N35,000.
According to the prosecutor, the complainant was asleep at the address when her window net was torn and her iPhone stolen by the alleged thieves, according to the prosecutor.
“Three days after, the suspects broke into her house in her absence and stole her footwear valued at N35,000.”
The prosecutor said a witness saw Messrs Terese and Agbo, and that during the investigation, Mr Terese confessed to the crime while Mr Agbo was still at large.
The prosecutor said the accused contravened the Penal Code Law Cap 124 (2004) of Benue State.
Ms Shaagee said the investigation into the matter was ongoing and requested additional time to complete it.
However, the accused denied the allegations levelled against him.
The magistrate, Vershima Hwande, granted the defendant N200,000 bail with one surety in like sum, who shall be a civil servant with a fixed address.
Mr Hwande adjourned the case until December 20 for further mention.
