Police arraign son for threatening mother’s life

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 86 and 249 (d) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun 2002.

The police on Wednesday arraigned a 26-year-old man, Adesoji Babatunde, in an Ile-Ife, Osun State, Magistrates’ Court for allegedly threatening his mother’s life.

 The prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in Ita-Osa area, Ile-Ife, on Tuesday at about 4.00 p.m.

 Mr Abdullahi alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breakdown of law and order.

 According to him, the defendant allegedly threatened the life of the complainant, one Madam Jolaade Awotoye, with a bottle for refusing to give him money.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 86 and 249 (d) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun 2002.

 The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of breach of peace and threat to life.

 The defence counsel, Mr Adeleke Dada, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal term, promising he would not jump bail.

 The magistrate, Abosede Sarumi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

 Mr Sarumi held that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

 He, subsequently, adjourned the case till December 16 for hearing.
