Police arraign three men for stealing pepper

Three men, Dayo Ademola, Tunmise Adeyemi, and Sunday Awotula, were arraigned before the Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged burglary and theft of a bag of dried pepper valued at N150,000.
Messrs Ademola, 24, Adeyemi, 21, and Awotula, 20, all labourers and a farmer, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a three-count charge of felony, burglary and theft.
The police prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, informed the court that the defendants allegedly committed a felony in the Sabo area of Okitipupa, Okitipupa Magisterial District, at about 4:40 a.m. on June 17.
He said they purportedly burgled Iyabo Akinluwa’s shop and stole a bag of dried peppers valued at N150,000.
Mr Orogbemi stated that the offences contravened sections 516, 413, and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The chief magistrate, Olanrewaju Adelegan, granted N50,000 bail to each defendant, with one surety in like sum.
Mr Adelegan specified that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must provide evidence of two years’ tax payment to the state government.
The case was adjourned until September 10 for further hearing.
