Police arraign two brothers for posing as white ladies to defraud victims online

Two brothers, Ayodeji Afolabi, 21, and Ayomide Afolabi, 23, and their friends, Abdulahi Olarenwaju, 20, and Samson Abayomi, 26, were on Friday arraigned before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over an alleged social media impersonation.
The four were charged each with impersonation, to which they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp. Elisha Tellang, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on January 7, at about 9:00 a.m., in Apete, Ibadan.
Mr Tellang alleged that the four, with the intent to defraud people, represented themselves as white ladies living in the United States of America.
He alleged that they falsely represented themselves with foreign numbers on Facebook, Gmail, Google, and TikTok.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened provisions of Section 484 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The magistrate, Moyosore Atanda, granted the defendants N200,000 bail each with two sureties each in like sum.
She held that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendants with the same surname.
Ms Atanda thereafter adjourned the case until February 4 for a hearing.
