Two women were on Wednesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The defendants, Sule Joy, 32, and Omowumi Temilade, 22, whose addresses were not provided, faced a three-count charge bordering on stealing and breach of peace.

The police prosecutor, ASP Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the offences were allegedly committed between August 2025 and May 10, 2026.

Mr Bamikole said the incidents occurred at Dalimore Junction in Ado-Ekiti, where both defendants were employed as sales girls by the complainant.

He alleged that Joy dishonestly converted N804,210 from cloth sales, which belonged to Omolara Akanbi, and failed to remit it.

According to the prosecutor, Temilade also allegedly diverted N408,610 from cloth sales belonging to the complainant without proper remittance.

Bamikole further alleged that both defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to provoke public disturbance and breach the peace.

He said, “The offences contravened Sections 302 and 181(1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.”

The prosecutor urged the court to grant an adjournment, saying additional time was needed to study the case file.

He also informed the court that witnesses would be presented when the matter comes up for substantive hearing.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against them before the court.

The counsel to the defendants, Joy Egbuson, appealed for bail, assuring the court her clients would not abscond.

She said, “The defendants are ready to face trial and will not jump bail if granted.”

Chief Magistrate Bankole Oluwasanmi granted each defendant bail in the sum of N80,000 with one surety each.

The magistrate subsequently adjourned the matter until July 13 for hearing. (NAN)
