Police arrest 10 persons for robbery, kidnapping, others in Bauchi
The police command in Bauchi State has arrested 10 suspects for crimes ranging from robbery, kidnapping, criminal conspiracy and assault.
On Tuesday in Bauchi, the command spokesman, SP Ahmed Wakil, said operatives arrested the suspects based on inter-agency collaboration to complement its constitutional mandate as a leading agency in maintaining internal security.
“Six suspects were handed over to the command by operatives attached to the 133 SF Battalion based in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area of the state,” he said.
Mr Wakil said the suspects allegedly kidnapped Ojo Tobi David, a 400-level student of the Bauchi State University, Gadau, at the Federal Low Cost, Azare.
He said the suspects also snatched a Toyota Camry car with registration number: KYW 925 SB after kidnapping the victim and drove on Misau – Azare Road.
“However, one of the suspects, Damilola James of the Turum area of Bauchi, fell down while trying to escape. He was referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, for immediate medical attention but was certified dead by a medical doctor.
“On receipt of the distress call, soldiers stationed at Azare/Misau military checkpoint responded immediately and intercepted the stolen vehicle alongside the suspects.
“The victim was rescued unhurt,” he said.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that the crux of the matter was a misunderstanding over the sharing of $3,800 obtained fraudulently.
He said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations.
Mr Wakil disclosed that the police nabbed a 17-year-old lady, Fatima Muhammad-Sani, alongside her sister Zulaihat Muhammad-Sani, 15, for allegedly assaulting one, Sa’adatu, in the Gida Dubu area of the Bauchi metropolis.
He said the suspects beat up and poured hot water on the victim, causing serious injuries to her neck and cheeks.
Mr Wakil added that police operatives arrested 32-year-old Suleiman Samail, a student with Bauchi State University, for allegedly causing grievous hurt to a fellow student.
He said the police also arrested a 20-year-old student, Adamu Muhammad-Isyaka, for alleged phone snatching.
He said the police recovered eight mobile phones, knives and assorted charms from the suspect, adding the suspects would soon be charged to court.
