Police arrest 12 suspected cultists in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested 12 suspected cultists at Amazing Grace Estate in Elele community, Auchi.
The command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said in a statement on Monday that the suspects were arrested in collaboration with the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) following credible intelligence.
The suspects are Abiola Anabgaifo, 33yrs; Idogo Joshua, 28yrs; Oseni Sani, 22yrs; Aminu Abubakar, 19yrs; Iyamah Precious, 29yrs; Usman Rapheal, 29yrs; Ogene Jude, 31yrs;
Others are Ibrahim Aheem, 27yrs; Tunde Bright, 20yrs; Jude Edeh, 21yrs; Godwin Edeh, 19yrs; and Aigbona Clifford, 20yrs.
“Being all male, they were arrested on May 7, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m. after they allegedly mobilised from Okpella to launch attacks on perceived rivals,” she said.
Ms Ikoedem said seven of the suspects confessed to being cult members and admitted involvement in cult-related activities, with some identified as members of the Aye and Vikings confraternities.
She added that operatives recovered a grey Mercedes-Benz car with registration number GWA 471 DS, allegedly belonging to a man, Balogun Israel, who is currently at large.
According to her, the suspects have been transferred to the anti-cultism unit and will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
She warned criminals to repent or leave the state, saying the command remained committed to tackling threats to residents’ peace and security.
