The Police in Gombe have arrested an 18-year-old for raping a six-year-old girl.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Oqua Etim, said on Friday in Gombe that the police arrested the alleged rapist after the father of the victim lodged a complaint.

“On Nov 30, we received a formal complaint from one Mohammed Mustapha that the alleged rapist took his six-year-old daughter to his room and had carnal knowledge of her.

“The police arrested the alleged rapist who confessed to the crime and would soon be arraigned,’’ he said.

Mr Etim also paraded 19 thugs popularly known as “Kalare’’ boys who terrorised residents of Gombe with dangerous weapons such as knives, cutlasses, daggers and sticks.

“All suspects arrested in this regard will be profiled and those found wanting will be charged in court.

“One stick, one knife, one sharp iron, five cutlasses, one catapult and one torch were recovered from the suspects as exhibits,’’ he said.

Mr Etim urged residents of the State to continue to provide timely and credible information to the police, while assuring that the command would sustain its surveillance and operations to nip crimes in the bud.
