Police arrest 19-year-old for attempted robbery in Katsina

The police command in Katsina says it arrested an armed robbery suspect in Kofar Sauri. The suspect, Aliyu Sani, 19, was accused of robbery and impersonation.
This was disclosed by Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the command’s spokesman, in a statement on Monday, saying the 19-year-old suspect was arrested on the penultimate Saturday.
“On 22nd August 2026, at about 7:00 p.m., information was received that the suspect was seen chasing a yet-to-be-identified person while holding and pointing a toy pistol at the victim with the intent to rob him,” he said.
He said that the suspect was arrested in collaboration with members of the local vigilante group.
Mr Aliyu stated that police operatives swiftly responded and arrested the suspect on the same date at about 8:00 pm at Kofar Sauri, Katsina.
“Upon arrest and search of the suspect, a black toy pistol was recovered in his possession. The suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation during the initial interrogation regarding how he obtained the exhibit,” he noted.
He added that the suspect is currently in custody as the investigation proceeds.
The police commissioner, Ali Umar, commended the community and the local vigilante for their vigilance and cooperation.
He further urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to decimate all forms of crime in the state.
