Police arrest Okada rider over alleged cheating

The Dei-dei Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, ordered Abdullahi Garba, a 20-year-old motorcyclist, to be remanded in prison custody for alleged cheating.
The judge, Saminu Suleiman, gave the order after Mr Garba had pleaded not guilty to criminal breach of trust and cheating preferred against him by the police.
The judge adjourned the case until April 30 for a hearing.
The prosecuting counsel, Juliana Atinko, told the court that the complainant, Isuleka Alhassan, reported the matter at Zuba Police Station on March 31.
Ms Atinko said that the complainant entrusted the defendant with one motorcycle, acquired on a higher purchase, for him to remit N7,000 to him weekly in September 2022.
She said the defendant only gave the complainant N52,000 in eight weeks and disappeared to an unknown destination.
The prosecuting counsel said the defendant got arrested on March 31 and that he told the police that he was attacked and the motorcycle snatched from him.
The offence, she said, contravened sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
