Police arrest robbers, cultists in Delta
The police in Delta have nabbed two suspected armed robbers in Ozoro community, Isoko South Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesman of the state command, DSP Bright Edafe, told reporters on Thursday in Warri that the suspects were apprehended on Tuesday by policemen from the Ozoro Division and members of the local vigilante.
“On April 5, 2022 at about 1630hrs, the DPO, Ozoro Division received a distress call that some hoodlums numbering about seven, suspected to be armed robbers were in a criminal hideout on Oleh Road, Ozoro.
“The DPO mobilised a combined team of police operatives and vigilantes, stormed their hideout and arrested one of the members aged 18 and another aged 20, while others escaped,” the command’s spokesman said.
Mr Edafe said that one locally made Beretta pistol was recovered from them.
He said that investigation revealed that the suspects procured the gun from a man in Igbide community at a cost of N160,000.
According to him, the manhunt for the fleeing suspects has been intensified while investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, Mr Edafe said that the command has arrested a suspected member of a cult gang and recovered assorted weapons from him.
“On April 5, 2022 at about 1430hrs, acting on credible information, operatives attached to the Command Raiders squad raided a suspected cult hideout at Umudiake Quarters, Aningene Community Asaba in Oshimili South.
“In the process, a man, aged 41 was arrested and one English-made pump action gun and 33 live cartridges were recovered,” he said.
Mr Edafe said that investigation into the matter was ongoing.
