The Anambra Police Command has arrested a suspected member of an armed robbery gang that has been terrorising Nnewichi in the Nnewi-North Local Government Area of the State.

The police public relations officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Awka.

Mr Ikenga said the suspect, Nnaji Chukwuma, male, 20, and his gang members specialised in snatching motorcycles, among other armed robbery activities in the area.

He said that during the arrest, the operatives recovered a Honda Cub 120 motorcycle and a machete from the suspect.

The police spokesperson said operatives attached to the Otolo-Nnewi Police Station arrested the suspect after a series of complaints and monitoring.

“According to the statement, police operatives attached to the Otolo-Nnewi Police Station on May 29 arrested one Nnaji Chukwuka, male, 20, who is a member of an armed robbery gang.

“Chukwuka specialises in snatching motorcycles and terrorising Nnewichi, Nnewi North LGA. The operatives recovered one Honda Cub 120 motorcycle and a machete from the suspect.

“The arrest follows the painstaking efforts of the operatives who had monitored the pattern of the criminal operations and based on a series of complaints about the activities of the gang in the area,’’ he said.

According to him, the suspect has made useful statements aiding the investigation for the possible arrest of the other fleeing gang members.

Mr Ikenga said the owner of the stolen motorcycle had been identified, and the bike was released accordingly.
