Police arrest suspected armed robber in Cross River, recover stolen motorcycles

The Cross River State police command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered stolen motorcycles in Calabar.
Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the command’s spokesman disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that sometime in June 2026, a group of armed men allegedly attacked and robbed different persons on separate occasions along Akwa Ibami Road, Calabar,” he said.
He stated that the suspect dispossessed the victims of about three Qlink 150 motorcycles and other valuables at gunpoint.
Mr Akata said Edet Effiong, a 35-year-old suspect was arrested, and following his arrest, detectives of the Anti-Robbery Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) commenced intelligence-led operations which led to the recovery of two of the stolen motorcycles.
“The command’s intelligence-led operations are currently in top gear to recover the remaining stolen items and apprehend other fleeing suspects believed to be connected with the alleged robberies,” he added.
He said the alleged case of armed robbery has been transferred from the Sting Unit to the SCID, Calabar, with ongoing efforts to identify and apprehend other suspects connected to the case.
