The police in Gombe State have apprehended two suspects over alleged murder of a police officer’s wife in the state.

This is contained in a statement by the state police spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, on Sunday in Gombe.

He said that the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the command over alleged criminal conspiracy, robbery and culpable homicide involving the wife of a police personnel at Wuro Shie Quarters in Gombe metropolis.

Mr Abdullahi said that the incident occurred on September 25 at about 4:35 a.m., when the suspects armed with machetes and cutlasses, stormed the residence of Inspector Salisu Waziri, attached to the Safer Highway Patrol Team. 

He said that the suspects (names withheld),  attempted to rob the deceased, Aishatu Salisu, of her phone.

Mr Abdullahi said that the deceased raised the alarm as a result of which one of the suspects stabbed her with a machete before fleeing the scene, leaving behind the handset.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Pantami Patrol Team immediately mobilised to the scene, and rushed the victim to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where she was certified dead,” he said.

Mr Abdullahi said that the operatives apprehended the suspects on September 26, following intelligence-led operations. 

“Both suspects are residents of Wuro Shie Quarters, Gombe,” he said.

Mr Abdullahi said that the police recovered a knife from the suspects, adding that the case was currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department.

He reiterated the commitment of the command to protect lives and property in the state.
