Police arrest two suspected arms suppliers in Akwa Ibom

The police command in Akwa Ibom says it has arrested two suspects involved in the supply of arms and ammunition to criminals operating within Ikot Ekpene and its environs.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo on Saturday.
She said that operatives of the command had on Friday successfully arrested the two suspected criminals following credible intelligence.
The PPRO said that upon a thorough search conducted on the suspects, one locally made revolver pistol was recovered.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of a criminal network allegedly involved in the supply of arms and ammunition to criminals operating within Ikot Ekpene and its environs,” she said.
The police spokesperson said that discreet investigations had commenced with a view to arresting other members of the criminal syndicate, adding that the command would ensure that all suspects connected with the crime are prosecuted.
She noted that the state Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and cutting off supply channels of illegal arms fueling violent crimes across the state.
“The command continues to urge members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to the nearest Police formation,” she said.
