Police arrest two suspected kidnappers in Kano, rescue two victims

The Police Command in Kano State has confirmed the arrest of two suspected kidnappers and rescue of their two victims.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, confirmed the development in a statement issued to reporters in Kano on Tuesday.
The suspects were Nura Auwal, 22, of Rijiyar Lemo Quarters Kano and Abubakar Lawal, 22, of Bachirawa Quarters Kano.
“On Jan. 26, we received an information from Isyaku Salisu and Auwal Sale, residents of Bachirawa Quarters Ungogo Local Government Kano, that their children, Umar Isyaku, 3 and Aliyu Auwal, 4, were kidnapped.
“Handwritten letters with mobile phone numbers and bank account details were sent to them for communication and they demanded N20 million ransom, but later settled at N2 million each.
“On receiving the report, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Mamman Dauda, instructed teams of Operation Restore Peace led by SP Aliyu Auwal, Officer in Charge of Anti-Kidnapping Squad, State Criminal Investigation Department, to rescue the victims and arrest the culprits.
“The victims were rescued unhurt at an uncompleted building.”
He added that the suspects had confessed that they conspired and kidnapped the two children and sent letters to their parents with phone numbers and bank account details demanding for ransom.
The spokesman said the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
