Police bust illegal petroleum refining site in Edo, arrest two suspects
The police say they have raided an illegal petroleum refining site in Agbor junction, Benin City, Edo State.
A statement signed by Force Spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi on Sunday said the operation was carried out by the IGP special task force on petroleum and illegal bunkering on September 7.
Mr Adejobi said two suspects, Chinedu Iyanabor, 18, and Sunday Iyagbesun, 52, were arrested at the site.
Recovered from the site are three empty DAF trucks, 31 immobile surface tanks – 7 of which were loaded with an unspecified quantity of petroleum products, Mr Adejobi said.
The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali, has consequently tasked the special enforcement unit to clamp down on the economic saboteurs with every necessary asset.
The arrested suspects will also be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation, the police spokesman noted.
On April 7, 2022, more than 100 people lost their lives in a fire disaster at an illegal petroleum refinery in Egbema community in Imo.
