Police commence disciplinary action against cops caught on video assaulting Bayelsa tricyclist

The police have commenced disciplinary action against some operatives caught in a viral video on Friday, assaulting a tricycle driver and making away with his tyre for driving without particulars in Yentown, Bayelsa State.
The officers were seen in the video after catching up with the driver, hiting him several times with their rifles and stepping on him for dragging the tyre with them to stop them from taking it away.
Spokesperson for the command, Musa Muhammed, in a statement on Saturday, said, “The attention of the Bayelsa State Police Command has been drawn to a viral video making the rounds on social media platforms, allegedly showing Police officers assaulting a tricycle (keke) driver.
“The officers involved have been arrested and disciplinary proceedings has since commenced in accordance with the provisions of the Police Act and other extant regulations.”
Condemning the officers” action, the state Commissioner of Police, Iyamah Edebor, who said such unacceptable behaviour was contrary to professional policing standards, reiterated that the command would not tolerate any form of human rights violation, unprofessional conduct or brutality.
Mr Edebor assured that the command won’t relent on its commitment to the protecting the rights and safety of citizens while ensuring lawful and professional policing across the state.
