Police Day: Ebonyi command conducts medical outreach, sanitation exercise

The police command in Ebonyi, on Monday, organised a medical outreach for members of the public and a sanitation exercise in Abakaliki metropolis as part of activities to mark its National Day, scheduled for April 7.
The Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi command, Urunwa Okafor, led from the front as she mobilised officers for the sanitation exercise at the popular Spera-in-Deo Roundabout and its environs.
The sanitation team also moved to Presco Roundabout, Abakaliki.
Speaking with journalists after the sanitation exercise, SP Joshua Ukandu, spokesperson for the command, said the medical outreach was provided free of charge to residents.
“This is free medical services to members of the public and Police officers. It includes eye examinations and various health screenings such as blood pressure, blood sugar, HIV tests, among others.
“These are part of activities to mark the 2026 National Police Day. Today, being Monday, we start with a large-scale environmental sanitation and a community-focused medical outreach, underscoring our commitment to public safety.
“It forms part of a nationwide programme aimed at strengthening police-community relations, while promoting health consciousness and environmental responsibility among citizens.
“The exercise is targeted at removing accumulated waste and environmental hazards that pose risks to public health and security.
“The command deemed it necessary to bring this exercise to Speraindo due to its strategic importance as a commercial hub and its high human and vehicular traffic.
“The volume of refuse evacuated from the area reflects the urgent need for sustained environmental hygiene practices,” Mr Ukandu stated.
