Police detain suspect with two locally fabricated guns, six live ammunition

The police command in Niger State said it detained one suspect with locally fabricated guns and six live ammunition in Makera Town of the state.
The command’s spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Minna.
The spokesperson said that on September 5, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a police patrol team attached to Mashegu Division, while on routine patrol within Makera town, intercepted and arrested gun runner from Guiye-Doko village, Edu Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara State.
He added that the suspect was arrested with two locally fabricated guns and six rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
He said, “During interrogation, he confessed that he came from Kwara and purchased the arms in Soba village via Kaboji, Mashegu LGA at the rate of one hundred and eighty thousand naira each. The suspect confessed further that he bought the ammunition at five thousand naira each from a yet to be identified person.’’
However, investigation is ongoing and effort to identify and arrest the fabricator is intensified.
He stated, “In another development, the operatives of the command arrested four suspects for conspiracy and vandalism of an electric transformer in Gbodoti village, Edati LGA.”
Mr Abiodun explained that on September 3, at about 8am, police operatives attached to Enagi Division, with the assistance of community members arrested four suspected vandals, all of Gbodoti village, Edati LGA.
Mr Abiodun explained that suspects were arrested following surveillance and credible intelligence reports on their nefarious activities.
He said, “They confessed during interrogation that they conspired, vandalised and stole community transformer cables in Gbodoti and Guzzan villages. The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Minna, for further investigation and prosecution.’’
