Police detain two suspected armed robbers, recover firearms in Nasarawa

The police command in Nasarawa State on Sunday said it detained two armed robbery suspects allegedly terrorising residents of the state.
The state police public relations officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed in a statement that the personnel of the command’s anti-robbery section arrested the male suspects in the Azuba community of Lafia.
The PPRO explained that the suspects had been on the command’s wanted list for their involvement in several robbery operations across the state.
“Acting on credible intelligence, the personnel apprehended the suspects on Saturday, January 10, around 10:00 p.m. and recovered one G3 rifle without a serial number as an exhibit.
“A follow-up operation conducted today, Sunday, January 11, also led to the recovery of one pump-action rifle from the suspects,” he added.
The police spokesman further said that the preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects entered Lafia and were lurking around Azuba centre, a suburb of the Lafia Local Government Area, to carry out a robbery.
“Unknown to them, they were already under the surveillance of the police before nemesis caught up with them,” he said.
Mr Nansel said the state commissioner of police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, commended the operatives for their professionalism during the operation.
He noted that the commissioner had ordered a thorough investigation into the case to unravel other members of the criminal group.
On behalf of the commissioner of police, the PPRO charged officers and men of the command to sustain the onslaught against crime.
He noted that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
