Police foil attempt to kidnap Taraba LG chairman
Suspected Kidnappers on Friday attempted to abduct the Chairman of Gassol Local Government Council of Taraba State, Abubakar Saidu, in his house located at GRA, Jalingo.
Mr Saidu told journalists in Jalingo that eight gunmen arrived at his residence at 2:00am on Friday, armed with sophisticated weapons.
He said that the kidnappers wielded four AK 47 riffles, and one of them wore a mask.
Mr Saidu stated that he sighted them through the window while they were making efforts to gain access into his residence.
The chairman said he quickly called the Divisional Police Officer of GRA Division, who swiftly responded as the assailants fled the scene.
Commending the police and vigilance group personnel for their timely intervention, he appealed to the state commissioner of police to tighten security around his house.
Contacted, the state police spokesperson, James Lashen, confirmed the development.
Mr Lashen said that though no arrest had been made yet, the command commenced investigation into the matter.
He advised residents to be conscious of their environment and report every suspicious movement to police.
