The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti, Joseph Eribo, has presented cheques of N23.849 million to the families of 27 officers who died in active service.

This was contained in a statement by the police public relations officer (PPRO) in the state, Sunday Abutu, on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti.

Making the presentation, the commissioner of police said that the disbursement of the money to the beneficiaries was at the instance of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

He sympathised with the beneficiaries who lost their loved ones during their service to the nation.

He assured them that the police remained deeply committed to the welfare of officers and their families.

Mr Eribo disclosed that the police would continue to evolve and revitalise welfare schemes to ensure adequate support for the families of fallen heroes and improve the conditions under which officers serve.

The CP encouraged the beneficiaries to make good use of the money by channelling it into legitimate business and the upkeep of their households.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the inspector-general of police for the gesture, noting that it would go a long way toward lessening their burden, while promising to make judicious use of the funds.
