The police command in Kogi says it has commenced a full investigation into the death of two corporals at ASCO Camp, Ajaokuta, in Kogi.

The ‌two officers were said to be involved in shootings that led to their deaths.

The police public relations officer (PPRO), Afusat Saliu, said in a statement on Monday that the incident occurred on October 23 and was reported at about 11:04 p.m.

Ms Saliu said this prompted the divisional police officer, Ajaokuta Division, to lead other officers to the scene.

She identified the deceased officers as Amos Yusuf and Grace Onimisi.

The PPRO noted that preliminary findings indicated that Mr Yusuf, who was on night duty, shot Ms Onimisi before shooting himself.

She said both officers were confirmed dead at separate medical facilities, while an AK-47 rifle and four expended cartridges were recovered at the scene.

Ms Saliu added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for in-depth investigation.

“The circumstances and motive remained subjects of investigation, and the command will not speculate on matters yet to be established,” she said.

The state commissioner of police, Naziru Kankarofi, extended his condolences to the families, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased officers over the tragic incident.

He assured that the command would provide verified updates as the investigation progresses.
