The police command in Delta has apprehended eight suspected cultists and recovered weapons and other items from them.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in Warri on Monday.

Mr Edafe said that the suspects were nabbed on Thursday by the command’s tactical team in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area.

The police spokesman said that there was a reported case of inter-gang clash in Oghara which prompted the deployment of the tactical team.

He said that police operatives, in alliance with members of the local vigilance group, raided a black spot in the community and arrested a suspected cultist in the process.

Mr Edafe said that upon interrogation, the suspect admitted to being a member of the Black Axe confraternity.

He stated that the suspect led the police to the hideouts of the other members of his gang.

The police spokesman said that the commissioner of police in Delta, CP Wale Abass, was committed to ridding the state of cultists and criminals.

He said that two locally-made guns, 12 cartridges, two axes, two NBM berets, two calabash and cult regalia were recovered from the suspects.
