Police nab five suspected cultists, armed robbers in Akwa Ibom

The police command in Akwa Ibom said it arrested five suspected cultists/armed robbers at a guest house in Abak Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement in Uyo on Tuesday.
Ms John said a man (name withheld) reported that a group of armed individuals broke into his room at a guest house (name withheld) in Abak, robbing him of his belongings and raping his female guest on June 26.
She said that the Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, ordered investigation into the matter, prompting the arrest of five suspected cultists/armed robbers by operatives of the command.
She explained that the suspects were apprehended based on discreet investigation after a formal complaint was lodged with the command.
“The police command has arrested five suspected cultists/armed robbers believed to be responsible for a recent home invasion, armed robbery, and rape incident,” Ms John said.
The police spokesperson said that during the raid, operatives recovered disturbing items from what appeared to be a shrine, including two coffins filled with women’s sanitary pads, pictures of people, and other fetish items.
She said the command had intensified efforts to arrest other members of the gang.
