Police nab Ibadan men for stealing slippers at Ogunpa market

The police on Friday arraigned two people before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for stealing slippers.
The defendants are Rasak Samad, 17, and Alamu Olaniyi, 20. They were charged with stealing and receiving stolen property. They both, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Elisha Tellang, told the court that the defendants committed the offences in 2024 at Ogunpa market in Ibadan.
The prosecutor alleged that Mr Samad stole sliding slippers worth N700,000 belonging to a complainant, Olamide Kasali.
He added that Mr Olaniyi, on the other hand, received the stolen slippers from Mr Samad, knowing they were stolen.
The magistrate, Oluwaferanmi Raji, granted the defendants bail of N150,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
The court held that the prosecutor must verify the sureties’ addresses.
She adjourned the case until May 6 for a hearing.
