Police nab Lagos taxi driver for raping, assaulting female passengers

The police command in Lagos has arrested a taxi driver accused of rape, defilement, assault, indecent assault, and armed robbery against female passengers.
Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday in Lagos.
She stated that officers from the State Criminal Investigation Department apprehended the suspect on Friday at about 9:40 a.m. Ms Adebisi noted the suspect’s image had earlier gone viral after several victims reported his alleged crimes on social media.
She said the arrest followed directives from police commissioner Jimoh Olohundare, who ordered detectives to track down the suspect. A red Toyota Corolla with registration JJJ 226 HT, allegedly used in connection with the offences, was recovered and secured as evidence. The suspect is currently in police custody.
Ms Adebisi said investigations were ongoing to identify and arrest other suspects believed to be involved. She urged additional victims to report to the CID in Panti, assuring their identities would be protected.
Ms Adebisi added that CP Jimoh reaffirmed the command’s commitment to securing justice for survivors and ensuring public safety. The police command, according to her, remains resolute in protecting residents and pursuing justice for victims.
She said further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses, describing the arrest as a major breakthrough in the fight against violent and sexual crimes.
