The police command in Niger says it has arrested a 37-year-old honey seller, Isah Usman, for forcibly engaging in homosexual acts with minors in the Angwan Biri area of Minna.

The suspect is said to have sexually assaulted boys aged 15, 13 and 14 in his compound.

The command’s spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, said a report was received at about 3:30 p.m. on April 23, 2026, about a honey seller allegedly engaging in unlawful sexual acts with teenagers in the area.

He said, “On 23rd April 2026 at about 3:30 p.m., a report received indicated that one Isah Usman, 37 years of Angwan Biri Area, who sells honey, has been forcefully having unnatural carnal knowledge of young boys aged 15 years, 13 years, and 14 years respectively in his room.”

Mr Abiodun stated that further findings showed the suspect often threatened the victims after the act and induced them with N500 each and some honey, adding that he was arrested by police operatives attached to the Bosso division.

“The victims were taken to Police Clinic Minna for medical examination, which confirmed the allegation and indicated penetration, while the suspect also confessed to the act,” he added.

He said the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Minna, for further investigation, after which he would be charged in court for prosecution.

“On the 28th April 2026 at about 5:45 p.m, a report was received at the GRA Division that on the same date at about 4:00 p.m, a 14-year-old boy was seen spending money lavishly and when questioned by his boss, who is a mechanic.

“He revealed that one Yusuf Shehu, 16 years of Tayi village, usually gives him between N2,000 and N2,500 after performing unnatural sexual acts with him in an uncompleted building around Tayi village,” he said.

He said that the suspect was arrested, and an investigation is ongoing to identify other victims and possible accomplices for investigation and prosecution for unnatural offences.

Mr Abiodun further advised parents and guardians to monitor and protect their wards against such unnatural offences to prevent the health implications on the victims.
