The police in Imo have arrested two suspected vandals who specialise in damaging electricity assets in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state.

John Johnson, 24, and Ekene Nwaojiji, 21, both natives of Nde Achi, Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi state, were arrested by a combined team of police and local vigilantes.

Michael Abattam, the police spokesman in Imo, on Friday, said the suspects were apprehended after receiving an intelligence report on their nefarious acts.

Their arrest followed constant complaints of sabotage by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company.

At the time of their arrest,  one locally made double-barrel pistol, one locally made single-barrel pistol, six rounds of live cartridges, a vandalized high tension electrical cable, one saw blade and a knife were recovered from the culprits.

Preliminary investigation discloses that both criminals have been vandalising electrical cables in the community for a long time with other gang members now at large.

The police said efforts are on to arrest the buyer of the stolen items as well as other gang members.
