Police nab suspect for allegedly vandalising reflective studs on Third Mainland Bridge

The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Police Command in Lagos State says it has apprehended an 18-year-old suspected vandal for allegedly tampering with road safety installations on the Third Mainland Bridge.
The command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.
She said the suspect was apprehended on April 6, at about 5:30 p.m., while removing reflective road studs installed on the bridge to enhance visibility of motorists.
According to her, a search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of 20 vandalised road studs in the suspect’s possession.
She said the reflective studs helped to guide drivers, particularly at night and during adverse weather conditions, thereby helping to prevent accidents on the busy bridge.
“The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by the command to protect critical public infrastructure and ensure the safety of road users across the state,” she said.
The spokesperson said that the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, reiterated the state’s zero tolerance for vandalism, as it endangers public safety and undermines order.
“The CP noted that such acts pose serious risks to public safety and undermine efforts to maintain order and security,” she said.
The spokesperson urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around public infrastructure to the nearest police station.
“Report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines: 07061019374,08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929,” she said.
