Police nab suspect over stolen motorcycle in Niger

The Niger State police command has arrested a 31-year-old suspect, Mohammed Yahaya, for allegedly stealing a parked Bajaj motorcycle in the Kwamba area of Maje, Suleja Local Government Area.
In a statement on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, said the incident was reported on June 18, 2026, after the owner discovered that his motorcycle had been stolen from where he had parked it.
“On 18th June, 2026, at about 11:00 p.m., a victim from the Kwamba area of Maje reported at the same Div that on 10th May 2026, he parked his Bajaj motorcycle at Kwamba motor park in front of his shop, and after the close of work at about 8:00 p.m., he discovered that the said motorcycle was stolen from where it was parked,” he said.
Mr Abiodun said the suspect, who is from the Gwazunu Quarters area, had previously worked as a commercial motorcycle rider for the victim but was relieved of his duties after failing to remit the agreed weekly payments.
He said the suspect was later spotted riding the stolen motorcycle around Kubwa in the Federal Capital Territory on June 19, prompting a police patrol team to move to the area.
“The suspect was arrested, and the motorcycle was recovered,” Mr Abiodun said.
He added that the suspect has been charged in court.
