Police nab suspected transformer vandal in Enugu

Operatives of the Trans-Ekulu Division of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested one Obieze Chigozie for allegedly vandalising an electric power transformer in an estate at Damijah Flyover.
The state police public relations officer, Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Mr Ndukwe said operatives arrested the 23-year-old suspect at about 5:30 a.m. on April 12.
He said, “Enugu State Police Command’s operatives serving in Trans-Ekulu Division, on April 12, 2024, around 5:30 a.m., swiftly responded to credible information and arrested Obieze Chigozie “m,” aged 23, at Damijah Flyover while his cohorts escaped.
“The suspect and his accomplices were alleged to have vandalised an electric power transformer in an estate at Damijah Flyover, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu.
“Yet-to-be ascertained lengths and sizes of armoured cables and a big cutting tool the suspect and others at large used in vandalising the transformer were recovered.”
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect confessed “to having been previously involved in the act of vandalism with others at large.”
He stated that the suspect will be arraigned and prosecuted after the investigation has been concluded.
