Police nab three suspected cultists in Lagos

The Lagos State police command has arrested three suspected cultists and recovered firearms, ammunition and other dangerous weapons during an intelligence led operation in Imota.
According to a statement on Wednesday by Abimbola Adebisi, the command’s spokesperson, the suspects were arrested following credible information from members of the public about the activities of suspected cultists in Imota.
“Acting on the credible intelligence, operatives of the command stormed the location and arrested Jelili Adeyemo ‘m’, 37 years; alleged to be the armourer of the group, Bisoye Adewale ‘m’ 42 years, and John Okeafo ‘m’ 60 years,” she said.
She said the exhibits recovered from the suspects included, one Beretta pistol, one locally made pistol, seven Dane guns, 10 live cartridges, seven expended cartridges, one stun gun, two handcuffs and four cutlasses, among other items.
Ms Adebisi said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were members of the Aiye Confraternity.
She explained that the recovered Beretta pistol allegedly belonged to a notorious cultist known as “Mayibone,” who is currently at large.
“The suspects have been arraigned and remanded, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing gang members and recover additional weapons,” she added.
