Police nab trader for attempting to steal mosque’s generator

A 30-year-old trader, Abubakar Abdullahi, was arraigned before the Karu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday for attempting to steal a generator from a mosque.
Mr Abdullahi, whose address was not released, is charged with criminal trespass, attempt to commit an offence of theft and belonging to a gang of thieves.
He denied committing the offence.
The prosecution counsel, Ayotunde Adeyanju, told the court that the complainant, Dan Wase of Abattoir, Karu, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on March 3.
He said the defendant entered the mosque in Old Chief Palace, Karu, pretending to observe his prayers.
He said the defendant brought out a chisel and attempted to break the mosque store to steal a generator.
Mr Adeyanju also alleged that the defendant belonged to a gang of thieves.
The judge, Isa Adamu, admitted the defendant to bail of N300,000 and one surety in like sum.
Mr Adamu adjourned the case until May 29 for a hearing.
