Police officers’ wives call for protection of children’s rights

The chairperson of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) in Lagos State, Adekemi Fayoade, has urged members to protect their children’s rights.
Ms Fayoade made this call during the 2024 Children’s Day celebration organised by POWA for police children in Lagos State.
“Our children have rights. They have the right to education, good health, protection from exploitation, and the right to be happy. That is the essence of the Children’s Day celebration. The celebration gives them the opportunity to showcase their talents and shows that we value them,” she said.
The chairperson assured the association would do its best with the available resources to assist widows and indigent officers’ wives.
She also called on well-meaning Nigerians and organisations to help empower members.
Speaking at the event, Gloria Durosimi, the wife of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, encouraged POWA members to be intentional in training their children to become responsible citizens.
Mrs Durosimi noted that many police children are now graduating as lawyers, doctors, engineers, and other professionals.
She urged members to support their husbands to help them perform well in their national duties.
A guest speaker at the event, Kofo Soaga, advised POWA members to always invest in their children’s training.
