The Osun State police command has commenced investigation into the shooting incidents that occurred on Tuesday in parts of the state.

This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi.

Mr Ojelabi said the command expressed deep concern over the incidents, which left some passers-by injured in the affected areas.

He noted that following reports of the shootings, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, directed the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit, Department of Operations, and Intelligence Units to launch a thorough investigation aimed at arresting and prosecuting those responsible.

The spokesperson further assured residents that necessary measures had been taken, adding that normalcy had been restored in the affected areas.

“Measures have also been put in place to prevent a recurrence, while security has been reinforced in the affected locations.

“An intensive, intelligence-led operation is ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators and their sponsors, regardless of their societal or political status,” he said.

Mr Ojelabi added that those injured in the incidents had been evacuated by the police to medical facilities for treatment.

He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding and called on anyone with useful information to report to the nearest police station or the command.

He assured that information provided would be treated with strict confidentiality.

“Individuals and groups are warned against taking the law into their hands or engaging in acts capable of threatening the peace and security of the state,” he said.

There were sporadic shootings in Ife and Owo-Ede areas of the state on Tuesday, during which some passers-by were injured by stray bullets.
