Police raid criminal hot spots in Enugu, nab 15 suspects, recover firearm

The police command in Enugu says 15 alleged criminals have been arrested. In a statement on Friday, the command’s spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, said the suspects’ arrest followed a raid by operatives of the command’s Crack Tactical Squad on some hot spots on Monday.
Mr Ndukwe said that the operatives acted on credible intelligence and raided identified criminal hot spots in the Four Corner area of the Ozalla Community in the Nkanu West LGA.
According to him, 15 suspects, comprising nine males and six females, were arrested during the raid.
“Two polythene bags filled with dried weed suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from the suspects.
“A further search of the area led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol loaded with one live cartridge. The suspects are currently undergoing thorough screening.
“Those found not culpable will be released, while those found culpable will be duly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he said.
Mr Ndukwe said that the state’s commissioner of police, Mamman Giwa, had directed supervisory officers in charge of operations and investigations to sustain the command’s proactive crime-fighting strategy.
He said that the commissioner had directed them to identify and dismantle criminal hideouts as well as detain and prosecute offenders.
The spokesman also urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information.
