Police raid cultists’ hideout, arrest three suspects in Ondo

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have busted a suspected cultism blackspot in Akure, the state capital, arresting three suspects.
The operation, carried out by the Tactical Intelligence Response Squad (TIRS), followed intelligence reports linking the area located in Arakale, Akure, to repeated cult-related activities and violent crimes.
In a statement on Sunday, the state police public relations officer (PPRO), Jimoh Abayomi, listed the suspects as Damilola, 34, Uthman, 29 and Akinwale.
Mr Abayomi said officers recovered incriminating items believed to be connected to cult operations.
He mentioned the items to include axe, beret cap, retevis walkie-talkie, sachets of tramadol, substance suspected to be marijuana, and ice bunker. He stressed that a thorough search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery.
“On 10th February, 2026, at about 2300hrs, a team of Tactical Intelligence Responses Squad (TIRS) stormed the location following credible intelligence on cult activities in the area.
“During the operation, three suspects believed to be members of the Supreme Eiye Confraternity were apprehended.
“The suspects are currently in custody and have made confessional statements confirming their involvement in cult-related activities and other criminal acts within the State,” Mr Abayomi said.
According to him, the raid forms part of intensified efforts to rid the state capital of criminal elements and restore public safety.
He, however, added that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other fleeing members of the group, adding that the arrested suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of preliminary inquiries.
“The Ondo State Police Command remains resolute in its determination to dismantle cult networks and ensure the safety and security of all residents. Members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant and continue to support the Police with useful information,” Mr Abayomi said.
