Police ready for NLC protest over hardships in Abuja: Spokesperson
The police command in the Federal Capital Territory has expressed readiness for the protest in Abuja by the Nigeria Labour Congress over hunger and economic hardship.
The command’s spokeswoman, Josephine Adeh, disclosed this on her official X handle on Tuesday.
According to her, although the command is unaware of any proposed protest, she assured that if the protest happens, efforts are being put in place to ensure that hoodlums don’t infiltrate the protest.
“In response to concerns raised by some journalists over the planned nationwide protests by the NLC and the security of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), I wish to note that the FCT police command isn’t aware of any intending (sic) protest,” said Ms Adeh.
The police officer added, “However, measures will be emplaced to ensure that hoodlums do not take advantage of any activities of the NLC to disrupt the peace in the FCT, if the protest does occur.”
Protests over hunger and economic hardship have already been recorded in parts of the country, including Minna, Ibadan, Kano, etc.
