The police command in Nasarawa State says it has recovered two stolen vehicles, a black Toyota Prado SUV with registration number YAB 81 KC (Abuja) and a silver Pontiac Vibe with registration number NBB-52 TT (Nasarawa).

Ramhan Nansel, police public relations officer (PPRO) in the state stated this on Wednesday in Lafia.

The PPRO explained that the feats complied with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police (IG), Olutunji Rilwan-Disu, to combat crime decisively.

He said the police received a distress call on Tuesday, March 17, at about 4:26 a.m. that a black Toyota Prado SUV had been stolen in Abuja and was heading toward Lafia.

“Upon receipt of the information, the commissioner of police (CP), Nasarawa State Command, Shetima Mohammed, swiftly deployed operatives attached to ‘A’ Division, Lafia, and reinforced them with personnel from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Operation Nasara.

“The team successfully recovered the vehicle along a street near Izallah Mosque in the Mararaba-Akunza Area of Lafia.

“A thorough search of the surrounding area was conducted. However, the suspects have fled, but efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” Mr Nansel added.

The police spokesperson further said that on March 16, at about 2:20 p.m., the command received credible intelligence that some unidentified young men had a suspected stolen vehicle in the Aso B Area, near the Assemblies of God Church, Mararaba, Karu LGA.

He explained that police operatives attached to the Aso Pada Division promptly mobilised to the scene, and upon sighting the officers, the suspects fled.

“Consequently, one silver Pontiac Vibe without a registration number was recovered and taken to the station.

“A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a number plate, NBB-52 TT, Nasarawa, suspected to belong to the vehicle; a Nigerian Correctional Service beret; and photocopies of documents believed to be related to the vehicle”, Mr Nansel said.

The PPRO said that a preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle had earlier been reported stolen on March 11, 2025.

The police spokesperson urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities and cases to the nearest police station for appropriate action.

He, therefore, assured the public that the command remained resolute and would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that all those involved in stealing the vehicles are brought to justice.
