Police recover unexploded bomb on Borno farm

The Borno State Police Command has obtained an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) allegedly found by one Babagana Kachalla, on farmland in the Dikwa Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesperson for the command, Nahum Daso, in a statement on Monday, said the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, in response to the report of the suspicious object, deployed the Commander of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Base 13, Maiduguri, and his team, to recover the explosive.
Mr Danso stated that the command, “In a proactive security operation, has successfully recovered an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) discovered on farmland in the Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State. The recovery followed a report from one Babagana Kachalla, who sighted a suspicious object on his farmland.
“Upon receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, Naziru Abdulmajid, promptly deployed the Commander of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Base 13, Maiduguri, alongside his team, to the location.”
According to the command, the EOD-CBRN operatives, after professionally cordoning off the area in line with standard EOD-CBRN protocols, said the UXO, “a Cluster Bomb Unit (CBU) measuring approximately 2.2 meters in length and 30 centimeters in width, was found partially buried.
It added that the command “conducted IN-SITU demolition before the extraction of the cluster munitions plates.”
Noting that the extraction of the explosive was conducted without any incident, Mr Daso also stated that residents of the community were sensitized to Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness (EORA) to enhance their knowledge on safety precautions upon discovery of such dangerous objects.
Mr Daso therefore urged them to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious items or activities to the nearest police station.
