Police redeploy DPO who slapped Abuja resident

FCT police commissioner Miller Dantawaye has ordered the immediate redeployment of the divisional police officer in Ushafa.
The order was disclosed in a statement by spokeswoman Josephine Adeh on Thursday.
“This decision follows the circulation of a video on X (formerly Twitter) depicting the DPO slapping a young man on Wednesday.
“The CP strongly condemned the officer’s actions, which fall short of the high standards of discipline, civility, and professionalism expected of police officers,” she said.
Ms Adeh said the police chief had warned that such behaviour was unacceptable and would not be tolerated under his leadership.
She said the officer had been redeployed back to the FCT Police Command Headquarters while the situation was currently being investigated.
“While administrative disciplinary steps are being taken, the CP has reminded all DPOs and their subordinates that they must remain professional, courteous, and law-abiding in the discharge of their duties.
“The CP has warned that any act of misconduct or abuse of power will attract severe sanctions,” she said.
Ms Adeh urged the residents of the FCT to report any suspicious activity or persons to the police through the command’s emergency numbers on 08061581938, 08032003913, or 08107314192.
