Police say Ondo man arrested for cultism

The police command in Ondo says it has arrested a 21-year-old suspected cultist, Raymond Sunday, and recovered firearms.
Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s spokesperson, who made this known in a statement on Friday, said the arrest occurred on Monday, at about 7:30 p.m.
According to him, operatives attached to the Okutanla Division acted on credible intelligence from Ago Lisa Camp via Epe in the Ondo East LGA.
“The detectives swiftly mobilised to the scene and took the suspect, of Owode Camp, Epe, arrested in connection with a case of stealing, into custody.
“During preliminary investigation, officers recovered a cut-to-size double-barreled locally made gun loaded with pellets, as well as a red beret cap from the suspect. Further examination revealed a tattoo on his chest suspected to be linked to a cult group.
“Investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspect’s involvement in cult-related and other criminal activities, including possible connections with additional accomplices. He will be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations,” he said.
Mr Jimoh explained that the police commissioner, Adebowale Lawal, reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to combating cultism, illegal possession of firearms, and other forms of criminality across the state.
He, therefore, urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and wards, instil strong moral values, and discourage association with unlawful groups.
The spokesperson said the command also encouraged members of the public to continue providing credible and actionable information to the police to strengthen collective security and ensure community safety.
