Police scrap tactical squad after officers’ misconduct charges

Osun police commissioner Olawale Olokode has ordered the immediate dissolution of the state’s Surveillance Squad because of unprofessional conduct by its members.
“The dissolution is with immediate effect and all personnel attached to the squad are to report to the State Headquarters for redeployment,” state police spokesperson Yemisi Opalola said in Osogbo on Sunday. “Investigations have commenced at the State’s Criminal Investigation Department over complaints of unprofessional conduct exhibited by personnel of the squad.”
The police did not immediately disclose officers involved or specific cases.
Ms Opalola stated also that the action would serve as deterrent to other tactical squads as the command under Mr Olokode would not tolerate or condone any act unbecoming of police officers.
The statement further urged residents to maintain trust in the police, saying officers are committed to giving the state improved services that will stand the test of time.
